The Part of You That Still Hides (Even When You Know You're Safe)

By Dylan Ayaloo

There's a strange moment that most people on a spiritual path arrive at..

You've done the meditation. You've felt real peace. You've had glimpses of something vast and open underneath all the noise. You know, at some level, that you are loved, that you are free, that nothing is actually threatening you right now.

And yet..

Something still performs. Something still shrinks in rooms where it doesn't feel sure of itself. Something still holds back, waits to be chosen, protects itself from a danger that isn't even there.

It's one of the most disorienting things to sit with. Because if I already know I'm safe.. why don't I feel it?

This was the question that came up in a recent satsang, and it's one of the most honest questions I've ever been asked:

"If my true nature is freedom and love.. what is it that still hides, performs and protects itself, even when it knows it's safe?"

The answer is the ego. But not in a dismissive "just drop the ego" kind of way.. in a much more tender and precise way.

At some point, a thought arose. Maybe it was in childhood, maybe it was a moment that felt quietly devastating. That thought became a belief: I'm not safe. I'm not enough. I'm separate from love. And from that moment, the mind became a problem-solving machine.. trying to close a gap that was never really there.

The trouble is, knowing this on a head level doesn't dissolve it. The body is still living the old pattern. The nervous system is still reading the old map.

We are drops of the universe. Safety isn't something we need to find.. it's what we already are. But the body needs to experience that, not just understand it.

That's what this satsang explores.

Watch the full satsang above.

If you'd like to sit with these kinds of questions live, I hold a free satsang every Friday inside the Elevate Community.. come join us if you'd like to be in the room.

And if you're ready to move from knowing to actually feeling it in your body, the free 7-Day Inner Work Challenge is a good place to begin.

Big love, Dylan
